Microneedling Treatment Overview

What is Advanced Medical Microneedling and what is it used for?

Advanced Medical Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a medical-grade treatment for scarring, wrinkles and skin tightening. A medical-grade microneedling device with ultra-fine needles is used to create small micro-injuries on the surface of the skin. The body then begins to heal these micro-injuries by sending fibroblasts to the treated area, notifying the body that it has been injured and needs repair. This process stimulates the body’s own production of collagen and elastin which are essential to creating and maintaining youthful-looking skin.

Microneedling Treatment Details

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling is a treatment that helps to rejuvenate the skin by increasing collagen and elastin production through a natural healing process. Its micro-injury system allows the controlled induction of skin self-repair mechanisms that stimulate new collagen synthesis. The result is smoother, firmer, younger looking skin with a more even skin tone. Advanced medical microneedling is safe and effective when overseen by an on-site Dermatologist. The micro-injuries produced by the microneedling device activate the skin’s healing process without causing damage, thus stimulating greater collagen and elastin production.

By inducing the healing process in a controlled way (without wounding tissues) skin renewal is achieved. Micro-injuries also produce micro-bleeding, with the consequent mobilization of platelets and the release of growth factors that accelerate the results.

Microneedling Treatment Procedure

How is an Advanced Microneedling Procedure Done?

At FCP Dermatology, microneedling is very well tolerated with little to no discomfort. As a Dermatology clinic with an on-site Dermatologist, we are able to use prescription-strength topical numbing agents to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.

After cleaning and preparing the skin, the topical anesthetic is applied over the treatment area. Multiple microchannels are made, from 0.5 to 2.5 mm deep, depending on the skin area to be treated and the type of skin condition. A minimum of 3 sessions are recommended, one month apart. For more severe cases of acne scarring, a minimum of 6 sessions are recommended for best results.

Before the procedure– Avoid sun exposure, do not wear makeup to your appointment and if possible, avoid taking any blood thinning medication to avoid bruising.

During the procedure –  A topical anesthetic will be applied over the skin to prevent any discomfort. Your medical aesthetician, in consultation with the Dermatologist, will decide what depth the microneedling device will be set at based on your skin type and skin condition. This depth is increased at each subsequent treatment for improved results every time.

After the procedure – At FCP Dermatology you will be given a serum to take home and use that night and the next day. We also provide you with a phone number and email to reach one of our medical aestheticians. Your safety and comfort is our top priority. You should also avoid sun exposure and strenuous physical activity for 24 hours after the procedure.

Ongoing Care

At FCP Dermatology we are dedicated to the ongoing care of our patients to provide you with the best results possible.
