Blepharoplasty Surgery

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves removing excess skin and fat from the eyelids to improve their appearance. It is also known as eyelid surgery, eyelid lift, eye lift, and hooded eye surgery. This procedure can improve vision problems that result from drooping eyelids. Additionally, blepharoplasty can enhance the appearance of the upper and lower eyelids by making them look youthful, refreshed, and rested.

At FCP Dermatology, the upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty procedures are performed by our Double Board-Certified Surgical Dermatologist, Dr. Kristy Bailey. Dr. Bailey is approved by the College of physicians and Surgeons and is recognized as one of the best blepharoplasty surgeons in Toronto.

Blepharoplasty Surgery

What is Blepharoplasty?

As we age, our eyelids stretch and our muscles supporting them weaken. This may result in excess eyelid skin and fat accumulation above and below your eyelids. This can lead to sagging or low eyebrows, droopy upper lids and pronounced under eye bags. Apart from aging, severely sagging skin around the eyes can reduce peripheral vision. Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery technique that involves the removal of extra skin and fat from the eyelids. The procedure can be performed on both the upper and lower lids. The upper blepharoplasty involves removing excess skin from the upper eyelid and repositioning or removing the underlying fat if necessary. The lower blepharoplasty involves removing excess skin, fat, or muscle from the lower eyelid to reduce puffiness and improve the appearance of bags under the eyes. The procedure rejuvenates the eyes, resulting in a younger, refreshed, and well-rested appearance.

Improved appearance

Blepharoplasty can improve the appearance of the eyes by reducing the under eye bags, lifting droopy eyelids, and tightening loose skin.

Enhanced vision

In some cases, excess skin around the eyelids can obstruct vision. Blepharoplasty can remove this skin and improve vision.

Long-lasting results

The results of blepharoplasty surgery typically last 10 years or more, making it a cost-effective cosmetic surgery for our patients.

Quick recovery

Recovery time for blepharoplasty is generally short, with most patients able to return to work and normal activities within a week.

Blepharoplasty Candidates

Who is a good candidate for blepharoplasty?

As we age, our eyelids stretch and our muscles supporting them weaken. This may result in excess eyelid skin and fat accumulation above and below your eyelids. This can lead to sagging or low eyebrows, droopy upper lids and pronounced under eye bags. Apart from aging, severely sagging skin around the eyes can reduce peripheral vision.

Good candidates for blepharoplasty include patients who have excess skin and/or fat around the eyes, sagging or drooping eyelids, or bags under the eyes that give a tired appearance. The upper eyelid blepharoplasty and lower lid blepharoplasty procedure is appropriate for anyone wishing to improve the appearance of their upper and/or lower eyelids to achieve a more youthful, rested appearance.

Blepharoplasty Procedure

Blepharoplasty+ Eyelid Surgery

At FCP Dermatology, blepharoplasty is  performed under local anesthesia, this eliminates the inherent risks of general anesthesia and allows for a faster recovery. The specific technique used for blepharoplasty may vary depending on the patient’s needs and goals, but generally involves the following steps:

Before the procedure: A cosmetic consultation will be done with our team of experts together with Dr. Bailey to determine if blepharoplasty is the right option for you. A careful analysis of your eyes and face will be performed, and the appropriate treatment will be determined. We will thoroughly review the procedure and answer any questions you may have. Your medical history and general health will be discussed with you to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure.

During the procedure: A local anesthetic will be administered to the treatment area to avoid any pain or discomfort during your surgery.
Incision: Dr. Bailey will make a precise incision along the natural crease of the eyelid, or on the inside of the lower eyelid, to minimize visible scarring.
Removal of excess skin and fat: Dr. Bailey will carefully remove excess skin and fat from the eyelid. The underlying muscle may also be tightened if necessary. Closure: The incisions will be carefully closed using fine sutures.

After the procedure: After the procedure, the patient will be monitored in a recovery area until they feel ready to go home. Patients will be given detailed post-operative instructions on how to care for the incisions and manage any discomfort or swelling. A one week follow-up appointment will be scheduled to remove the sutures and monitor the progress of your procedure.

Tattoo removal works by breaking apart ink particles into small pieces layer by layer. Your body’s white blood cells then carry away the broken down particles. With the PICO Enlighten III laser a tattoo can be completely removed, and in fewer sessions than with other lasers. In addition, other lasers may leave hypopigmentation or white colour where the tattoo was. The PICO Enlighten III laser together with our laser experts and on-site Dermatologist make sure the tattoo is removed completely with minimal to no marks left behind.
